Club Meeting – Media in History and in Berne
When Tuesday, 13 October, from 19:00
Where Cheminee Room at Bruder Klaus Church Center,
Ostring 1, (tram 7 stop, Burgernziel)
Contact Graham Tritt
Deadline Please register online by Friday, 9 October
Media as Graham defines it includes all methods of communicating entertainment and information. The history goes back to cave-man days, where chanting, play-acting and painting have developed now into all forms of singing, opera, theater, movies, and fine arts.
The first part of the meeting will be a presentation from Graham in the form of a slide show illustrating the development and variety of art forms – and it will also show what is available in Berne now.
The second part will be on the history of technology and electronic media which will cover language and writing through printing to the Kindle. It will also cover electrical transmission from telegraph to Skype, from radio to Instant Messaging, from group activities to social media.
We will discuss the struggles and advances in technology, and the social and political and economic consequences. If there is time, we can talk about the current forms of communication (mobile and map and personal information, and the Internet of Things). We can wonder about how media will change in the future, and how it changes us.
All attending are welcome to contribute with their comments and ideas to make a lively discussion.
