Cycle Visit to Landshut Castle

When           Sunday, 18 June, at 09:30

Where          Meet at railway station Treffpunkt at 09:30

Contact       Mary Schwyzer (see inside cover page)

Deadline      Please register by Friday, 16 June

Route: Cycle from Grafenried at 10:00 about 12 km to Landshut castle. Visit of the castle and its Museum of Wildlife and Hunting (entry CHF 7); drinks/lunch break. Return around 14:00 to Bätterkinden and by rail to Berne. Cost of a day card is CHF 12.80, plus the same for a bicycle.

The Swiss Museum of Wildlife and Hunting is in a moated castle which dates back to the 17th century. The river Emme waters flow through the magnificent 19th century park. Time seems to stand still here; one can admire rooms in the castle with their period furniture and pictures. The Museum displays the history of hunting and wildlife in Switzerland since the Stone Age, with an emphasis on weapons, horns, hounds, falconry and decoy birds.

Hi Mary or Graham, sounds like the event will not take place as not enough registrations and the fear of heat. I'd love to visit the castle but have no bike. Could one come with the car?

We have too many events on at the moment ... but it is up to individuals to register and take part. It may be hot on Sunday.

If the event does not take place, we can plan for it in September again.

FNrom Mary: Have heard nothing about the bike jaunt on Sunday. If nobody has interest, all perfectly ok. In this heat it would be do-able either very early in the morning, 9 or so, or in the late afternoon.

What I had written in the lost mail was that I am now biking over there twice or so a week for a friend who is in southern France for 2 weeks. They have an exciting bijou of a garden with promises of Fairyland in the offing. Anyway, the castle Landshut is another 12 min or so in the distance.

I am wary of the heat, though it is supposed to break. And of course, in the case of rain we would not go.

It was just a spontaneous thought tossed out, we can delay until later in the year. The months of July August are not good for me, at all. I wrote that I will keep the Sunday open until mid-morning. Getting there is the one thing, have to leave as well and no matter how carefully planned, it maybe biking in too much warmth.

If anyone would like to take a bike jaunt, also the Limpachtal is wonderful, an extension of Bätterkinden/Landshut, really great biking land, with good trails, some tarred, some not.

But jeepers the ride is really pleasant and peaceful to do. Yes, a few little slopes, not alpine, but some inclines.

And the RBS rail is never far.

Who's coming? See all
