From Petr: I am attending the Collegium Generale which meets at the Dampfzentrale that day. The topic is 'Challenge for Law and Ethics', which may be quite interesting. It may make it hard to get to wherever the Sophie meeting is. If we adjourn before 8, and I can't get there before 7:30 pm, it may hardly be worth trying to attend.

From Graham -
>We did not talk much about "Das Versprechen / The Pledge" as some had not finished it. We could meet again for this purpose - should we?

This interesting Collegium Generale presentation is at Dampfzentrale
This is good for your home location but inconvenient for the city.

We could choose a different day and time, if other members are not available.

Tarkine in northwestern Tasmania is home to one of the last undisturbed tracts of Gondwanan rainforest in the world, and one of the highest concentrations of Aboriginal archaeology in the hemisphere. Yet this place, which remains largely as it was when dinosaurs roamed the planet, is currently at the mercy of destructive extraction industries, including logging and mining. Weaving together the conflicting narratives of activists, locals and Aboriginal communities, and told through the experiences of a trail running doctor and a relentless environmentalist, this documentary, presented by Patagonia Films, unpacks the complexities of modern conservation and challenges us to consider the importance of our last truly wild places.
The Seed Vault has the capacity to store 4.5 million varieties of crops. Each variety will contain on average 500 seeds, so a maximum of 2.5 billion seeds may be stored in the Vault.

Currently, the Vault holds more than 980,000 samples, originating from almost every country in the world. Ranging from unique varieties of major African and Asian food staples such as maize, rice, wheat, cowpea, and sorghum to European and South American varieties of eggplant, lettuce, barley, and potato. In fact, the Vault already holds the most diverse collection of food crop seeds in the world.

The focus of the Vault is to safeguard as much of the world’s unique crop genetic material as possible, while also avoiding unnecessary duplication. It will take some years to assemble because some genebanks need to multiply stocks of seed first, and other seeds need regenerating before they can be shipped to Svalbard.

Next meeting 18 September 18:30
Friedrich Dürrenmatt, "Das versprechen", "The Pledge"
Location to be notified

>Both dates are OK for me! Cheers, Agnes

>I can come 18 September only. Hi all, Mary

Marianne Oppliger comes from Thun and said she would like to start early, so 18:30. Also that suits Agnes better.

Next meetings

30 October 18:30 Edgar Allen Poe, "Murder in the Rue Morgue"

Note: 2 November all day visit to Biel, Ligerz, and Neuchatel with theme Dürrenmatt

November or December Michelle Obama, "Becoming" Shall we set a date?

I think we could have this discussion at a Club Meeting, on the Tuesday following Onion Market at Bruder Klaus. Reason is that other members of the club are interested and we cshould have a comfortable place without restaurant hassles.
