Hike – Frieswil to Aarberg

When                Sunday, 24 March, from 09:45

Where               Meeting at the Postbus station above the railway station.

Contact            Vernon Relling (see page 2)

Deadline          Please indicate your interest by Sunday, 17 March

We take Postbus 100 leaving at 10:03 to Frieswil. We walk from there over the Frienisberg mountain to Aarberg. On the way we climb the Chutzenzturm tower, from where there are great views of Berne, the lake of Biel, and the Chasseral mountains. The total distance is 12 km, and we reach Aarberg around 2 pm and stop for a coffee. See www.wandern.ch for more information.

If this distance is too long, you can break off after 7 km at Baggwilgraben and continue to Aarberg or return to Berne by bus. From Aarberg there are several return options, and we plan to take the S52 train at 14:40 via Kerzers to Berne.

The transport cost each way is CHF 4.60 and you could bring a snack and drink

There are many descriptions on www.wandern.ch. Gary the one you talk about is NOT the one we are taking. We are on this one (I believe): https://www.outdooractive.com/de/wanderung/schweizer-mittelland/von-frienisberg-ueber-den-chutzenturm-nach-meikirch/23416847/

It looks as though the route I referred to in my comment below is or may be the shorter one that is mentioned in the hike description above.

According to my info, the route Frieswil-Aarberg is only 2 hours. The 12 km route is actually from Fuchsenried (Muhlebergwerk). See https://www.postauto.ch/sites/default/files/freizeitklick/ra-thema_-_ausflugstipps_themen/ra-thema_-_schweizer_wanderwege/bern_muehleberg_582_de.pdf

I think the first half is easiest. Have a look at

Hi. Angela and I are interested to attend, but we will probably stop after Baggwilgraben. A would like to know if the hike includes any difficult or very steep parts. Would it be better to join for the first or the second half of the hike?

Vernon is the leader. Return with half price abo by bus or through Lyss costs CHF 4.60 or via Kerzers CHF 8.60 I think.
