Burgdorf und Lützelflüh: Culture in the Emmental
Day trip 4. Juli 2020
Burgdorf becomes a cultural center with the reopening of Burgdorf Castle in June 2020. In addition to the castle with its knight's hall and its collections on Pestalozzi and city and industrial history, there are two other museums worth seeing: the museum of the painter Franz Gertsch and the collection of the metal artist Bernhard Luginbühl in the old slaughterhouse (current exhibition: Alfred and Sabina Hofkunst).
The small town in the lower part of the Emmental was founded by the Zähringer family in the last third of the 12th century, around the same time as Bern. At the beginning of the 1830s, the replacement of patrician rule in the canton of Bern was planned in Burgdorf.
After a one-hour city tour with a culture-loving woman fro Burgdorf, there is enough time for individual visits to the three museums and for lunch.
In the early afternoon, we take the train to Lützelflüh in twelve minutes. It's about literature. Albert Bitzius, who later became Jeremias Gotthelf, is compared to Dostoevsky and other classics. After our introduction, which is mainly about his first book "Bauernspiegel", there is time for an individual visit to the Gotthelf Center, which is housed in the rooms in which Gotthelf lived with his family at the time.
Meeting point: Burgdorf station at 08.55 (Bern from 08.38 with the Inter-Regio towards Zurich).
The cost of the tour is CHF 10, free for children. Entry to museums and exhibitions is not included. Information: 076 303 09 29. We appreciate it if you register by email at chtour@chtour.ch
